Food is an important determinant of our health and hence our quality of life. A person who is depressed, tired or stressed is not a healthy person and this can cause severe pathologies that can be prevented through a healthy lifestyle.
As we all know, physical activity can become a bit happier with only spend a few minutes a day because its practice stimulates the release into the body of neurotransmitters and hormones that can lift our spirits.
Also, foods can contribute to our better mood if we choose those that promote the release of serotonin in the body, a substance that can generate pleasure, happiness, harmony and prosperity while enhancing our mood. Foods that contain tryptophan, an amino acid precursor of serotonin, are those that can lift our spirits and become happier. Even a deficit of serotonin may increase the sensation of pain in sick people, so that consuming foods with tryptophan relieve aches and pains.
These foods are: chocolate, banana or banana, kiwi, dried fruits, cheeses, eggs, mushrooms, nutmeg, milk and meat products.
In addition, foods high in sugar and starch derivatives such as cereals, facilitate the arrival of tryptophan to the brain and hence, working with the best mood.
Moreover, the omega 3 fatty acids do not contain tryptophan but its consumption has been associated in various studies to lower rates of depression and an improvement in the state brain.
A balanced diet that complements physical exercise daily and include foods of animal and plant origin in right proportions can be the solution to our stress, our chronic fatigue and our bad mood or depression.
You know, food can not only mark the course of our health, but can significantly affect our mood and further improve the quality of life.

Here is a zesty summer drink you can easily make with those extra limes. Limeade itself can be rather tart (though alone it is still one of my favorite drinks); adding a bit of cranberry juice, sour cherry, or pomegranate juice, can take the edge off the lime while adding another dimension of flavor. I’m thinking this one would also make a great juice popsicle.
1 Heat 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil so that the sugar is completely dissolved, and remove from heat. If you want an added zing to your limeade, zest a couple of the limes before juicing and add the zest to the sugar water while it’s heating. Once the syrup has cooled, strain out the zest with a fine mesh strainer before using.
2 While your simple syrup is cooling, juice the limes.
3 Add lime juice, cranberry juice, 1 1/2 cups of cold water, the simple syrup, and a few ice cubes to a serving pitcher. Depending on when and how the limeade is to be served, and how strong you want it, you can add more ice and water. For example, if you want to serve it right away, and it is still a bit warm from the hot simple syrup, add lots of ice. If it has had a chance to cool down and chill in the refrigerator, but is still too strong, add a bit more water until the strength is to your preference.
If the cranberry limeade is too sweet for your taste, add some more lime juice and water until you reach your desired level of sweetness, and use less sugar the next time you make it.

The problem with most broccoli salads is the broccoli - the raw broccoli. Some people like raw broccoli, and actually, I love raw broccoli stems. In this recipe, the broccoli pairs wonderfully with the toasted almonds, bacon, peas, and onion.
1 teaspoon salt
5-6 cups fresh broccoli florets (about 1 pound of florets)
1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds
1/2 cup cooked, crumbled bacon
1/4 cup of red onion, chopped
2 Combine broccoli florets, almonds, crumbled bacon, chopped onion, and peas in a large serving bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, cider vinegar and honey. Add dressing to the salad and toss to mix well. Chill thoroughly before serving.
Serves 4 to 6.

Making your own caramel sauce from scratch is a lot easier than you might think, and it takes practically no time at all. This recipe comes from elise.com.Be careful while you are cooking the sugar, as with any candy making process. Once the sugar has melted it has a much higher temperature than boiling water. Also, when you add the cream, the mixture will foam up, so use a pan with high sides.
1 First, before you begin, make sure you have everything ready to go - the cream and the butter next to the pan, ready to put in. Making caramel is a fast process that cannot wait for hunting around for ingredients. If you don’t work fast, the sugar will burn. Safety first - make sure there are no children under foot and you may want to wear oven mitts; the caramelized sugar will be much hotter than boiling water.

2 Heat sugar on moderately high heat in a heavy-bottomed 2-quart or 3-quart saucepan. As the sugar begins to melt, stir vigorously with a whisk or wooden spoon. As soon as the sugar comes to a boil, stop stirring. You can swirl the pan a bit if you want, from this point on. Note that this recipe works best if you are using a thick-bottomed pan. If you find that you end up burning some of the sugar before the rest of it is melted, the next time you attempt it, add a half cup of water to the sugar at the beginning of the process, this will help the sugar to cook more evenly, though it will take longer as the water will need to evaporate before the sugar will caramelize.

3 As soon as all of the sugar crystals have melted (the liquid sugar should be dark amber in color), immediately add the butter to the pan. Whisk until the butter has melted.

4 Once the butter has melted, take the pan off the heat. Count to three, then slowly add the cream to the pan and continue to whisk to incorporate. Note than when you add the butter and the cream, the mixture will foam up considerably. This is why you must use a pan that is at least 2-quarts (preferably 3-quarts) big.
5 Whisk until caramel sauce is smooth. Let cool in the pan for a couple minutes, then pour into a glass mason jar and let sit to cool to room temperature. (Remember to use pot holders when handling the jar filled with hot caramel sauce.) Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Warm before serving.
